My Texas Market | October 2015 | Review | Unboxing

*product was received free for review

My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box that sends a selection of local Texas small businesses. Items are varied but you can expect to find things like beauty products, food items, and jewelry. They also offer a section called, “shop outside the box”. This is usually in the form of a coupon for something that is too big or too expensive or otherwise doesn’t make “fit” in the box. Subscriptions are $35 monthly.

Here’s the Box Breakdown
Our first glimpse inside the October My Texas Market Box
Everything that we received in the October “Tailgates and Touchdowns” themed My Texas Market Box. I saw a sneak peak for one of the items in this box and have been sitting in anticipation ever since! If you watched the unboxing you know one of the items leaked but it wasn’t a big deal.

So, what is all this stuff?

Insert
The insert included in the My Texas Market is always super detailed and tells us about the product and the company that it comes from and we really appreciate that. If we are buying small and local we sometimes need to know what exactly and whom we are buying from!

Cornucopia Popcorn Smokey & Sweet BBQ

$5.50
I am not a huge Barbecue flavor fan but by golly this was sooooo good!
It is a little spicy but utterly packed with flavor!
Being vegan, all natural, and gluten free is a huge plus as well.

They are really vague with the “spices” portion of their ingredients but there’s definitely oregano in there and some other stuff I can’t quite put my finger on. The brown sugar is so subtle it is only afterward that we can taste it.

This did not last long, between Mr. I’m Not a Tree and I. What a great addition to any football night! Also, there is a flavor on their site “Honey, Lavender, Caramel” and I think I NEED to try that!

Healthy Spice Blends Carnivore Grill Rub

$9
This is just one of a number of spices from “Healthy Spice Blends” I particularly like the one called, “Marco Polo Marveloso”.
These rub / marinades are 100% organic and sustainably sourced, harvested at the peak of their potency, and made in small batches with no chemicals or additives.
The mild taste of this spice blend is in stark contrast to the popcorn – which had a wildly bold flavor. This blend is very earthy and aromatic. We used it on pork tonight. Alternately it would be fantastic on chicken. What tailgate party would be good without a great rub for your grilling!
$5
This was the above mentioned spoiler I was excited about! Mr. I’m Not a Tree and I love experimenting with different spicy foods and this looked different and fun! The Lavender was something I had never seen added into a “pickled” food.
These were slightly sweet, yet the flavor of the peppers somehow remained unaltered. These were pretty spicy as well, so if you aren’t into that these will probably be a no go for you!
$6
So, they can’t put beer in the box… next best thing? Beer Soap. This soap helps to soften skin and create a perfect lather. Can be used for body, shaving, or even shampooing. I love the scent. It’s a lemon-y smell with a hint of something herbal. I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet, but when I do I will let you guys know what I think.
$13

The salve has many powerful ingredients that are aimed at treating sore troublesome spots. There’s menthol crystals, camphor, Vitamin E, organic beet root, and coconut oil. I haven’t had a chance to try this yet (which is probably a good thing) But I am totally glad this was included — as this is a totally useful and practical addition to the box

The soak came with this very nifty spoon to scoop it out of the bag. This has an extraordinarily soothing scent. And is much like a natural version of Icy Hot. Relieves muscle tension and soreness.
Lalavenderia’s products are made in small batches in Texas Hill Country.

Sweet Aspen Jewels “Football Season” Keychain

$16
Winter, Spring, Summer, Football” This bottle opener was custom made for this My Texas Market Box. All of their items are 100% handmade. From cutting the metal, to polishing it, and then finally hammering insignias into the metal; they do it all. Their Etsy has tons of really beautiful jewelry and charms so be sure to check them out.

Shop Outside The Box

Sip Simmer Serve
(Who you’ll note that I am quite familiar with if you read the blog regularly) included an exclusive subscriber’s only discount.

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. My Texas Market consistently offers a high quality selection of items. I think the quality alone makes this box a killer deal! It’s also presented beautifully each month with detailed inserts. The curation is astounding. The themes are always appropriate and the items are always relevant to the theme yet wonderfully diverse. We receive oodles of brand awareness with a box like My Texas Market. There’s a lot of pride in this box, each item included is made with love and crafted with skill and with the consumer in mind and we love that about the My Texas Market Box!
As far as box economy My Texas Market costs $35 and we received $54.50 in products. That isn’t bad at all by our accounts!
