Local Town is a Jacksonville, Florida based subscription box that also provides a listing of local vendors in the Jacksonville, St. Augustine area and Northern Florida area. The attempt of the box is to spread the word about good deeds and good businesses and give back to the local community. This box in particular supports meals for a Mother & Child campaign with City Rescue Mission. For right now, it’s just Northern Florida but watch out because we think they are going to be everywhere soon! Boxes are $20 with a $10 shipping fee. If you are local though you can pick it up at no additional shipping charge!

Here’s the Box Breakdown
Our first glimpse inside the Local Town Box
Everything that we received in this month’s Local Town Box. This has the feeling of an excellently curated farmers market subscription box and that gets us really excited!
So what is all this stuff?
Our box inserts
We received a bag of this homemade specialty toffee. Made in small batches with the original recipe – this stuff is amazing!
It’s mixed with milk chocolate and is the perfect medium between crispy and soft. Sweet and a tiny bit salty. If you like toffee you will love this!
This Barking Iron Espresso from a little shop in Green Cove Springs boasts that it has more bark than bite! It definitely is aromatic to say the least, since I haven’t had a chance to use it yet I can’t say whether it’s bark or bite is larger… but I can’t wait to find out
Rype & Readi Farm Market Pumpkin
Rype & Readi Farm Market is a source for premium local farm fare at an affordable price. All products (including this adorable little pumpkin) are grown in Rype & Readi gardens or neighboring farms
We received two small jars of this raw honey from Cross Creek who is situated on one of the last refuges of old Florida.
There was Orange Blossom and Florida Everglades included
I like honey but I don’t know much about it – so to receive two different honeys at the same time and compare them really makes differences that much more apparent!
This is the Orange Blossom which is a light and mildly citrus-y in flavor. I only could detect that having tried the other honey though – all around this is an excellent honey and I’ll definitely be using this on food
This is the Florida Everglades honey which is much darker in color and has a bite with a slightly bitter flavor. Definitely a good honey for tea!
This bar is fabulous! Fresh and fruity – but you have to like both Cranberry and Orange because it is very flavorful!
A healthy living Mecca, Fresh Jax offers healthy food and heart centered yoga to Jacksonville residents. This bar is made with all organic ingredients
And quite yummy! The center is soft and a bit gooey. It tastes of the freshest fruits and is bursting with delicious texture!
The Jar Company is located in St. Augustine, Florida and creates the best flavored preserves simply by making in small batches with seasonally fresh ingredients. I love apple butter and this stuff is absolutely no exception. It is incredibly warm and sweet exactly as it should be
We love that there are a total of four ingredients on there! Definitely something that we love to see
So in summary
We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. The Local Town Box is a great example of a Farmers Market Subscription Box but what makes it unique is it’s efforts to give back to the local (and eventually) all communities. The quality of all of the items in this box are excellent and the presentation is as well. We did have a slight tear in the coffee bag in transit but because they were whole bean it wasn’t an issue at all! Curation though, is what really makes this box special. They haven’t just included companies that make good products they’ve also included companies that are doing good for the community and the world in general! We think this is an awesome box!
As far as box economy we don’t really have accurate prices on the items in the Local Town Box but for $20 (and $10 shipping if you aren’t local) we think this is an awesome deal and are really interested in seeing Local Town come to our Local Town!
