Here’s the Box Breakdown
first look inside the whisk & flour box
Our first glimpse inside the Whisk & Flour Box. We can’t wait to find out what yummy treat we’ll be baking!
what's in the whisk & flour box
Everything that we received in our Whisk & Flour Box. This month’s box sends everything you’ll need to create Aztec Hot Chocolate Cookies. YUMMY!

So what is all this stuff?

Our recipe. This lists all the ingredients (the ones included and the two that weren’t)
The reverse has photo instructions
The other box insert lists the flavors for this month. Espresso Powder, Cinnamon, Cayenne Pepper and Chocolate round out these deeply rich cookies.
The reverse contains the techniques we will be using this month!
This useful spatula was a gift included to help us complete our baking project this month. This is very nice! We’ll definitely be using these during our baking escapades.
This pretty bag had all of our ingredients tucked safely inside
We love the fun little labels on the Whisk & Flour ingredient bags! “Knowledge is Baking Powder” declares this one!
Cinnamon is one of the Whisk & Flour flavors of the month. All of the ingredients as evidenced by their little bags is pre-portioned for ease of use.
Another of this month’s flavors, guaranteed to give you that extra bit of get up and go!
This little bag definitely piqued our interest! We’ve never had a cookie with pepper in it – but we are totally eager to try!
Salt. A life sustaining mineral which makes these cookies… essential!
There were two 3 ounce bags of chocolate chips included. We only photographed one because we figured you guys could imagine the other based upon this photo. We particularly like the little blurb on this one, “Life is like a box of semi-sweet chocolate chips”
So we can properly make a mess in the kitchen!
And last but not least, the star of the show… cane sugar to delight your tastebuds!

Okay so now what?

Darling, now we bake!
We start by creating a double boiler. We add the chocolate chips and one tablespoon of butter (one of the only two items that wasn’t included in the box)
We’d never done a double boiler before and to our surprise it was pretty simple!
While the chocolate and butter are melting we add our egg (the other ingredient that wasn’t included) and sugar to a large bowl.
We beat for five minutes until a pale white color. This technique is called “Ribboning” and denotes an effect where air is fused into the mixture.
Then we mix together all of our remaining dry ingredients. Once your chocolate has completely melted you prepare to fold both the sugar mixture and dry ingredients in
It will look something like this. At this time you’ll refrigerate for one hour
Now you preheat oven to 350 degrees and spoon tablespoon amounts of dough on your cookie sheet
Like so…
Leave in oven for 10-12 minutes
Your finished product will look a bit like this and will have a bit of that cayenne bite with a delicious smooth chocolate-y flavor!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. The Whisk & Flour Box is the perfect box for someone who wants to learn to cook but lacks either the time or the creativity. It’s also a great way to learn new techniques and just improve your skills in the kitchen! The presentation is great. We love all the little packets and the reusable bag! The quality is awesome, they use only the best, artisanal ingredients. And curation.. what can we say? They’ve done the hard work so that we don’t have to. The recipe is delicious and unique! We think Whisk & Flour is awesome!
