Here’s the Box Breakdown
first look in the know yourself box
Our first glimpse inside the Know Yourself Box. We received two boxes together so this originally arrived as part of a larger box
what's in the know yourself box
Everything that we received in our Know Yourself Box for Adventure 3. This Box takes us to Ancient China as we learn about how our body responds to stress.

So what is all this stuff?

We received a 4 pack of markers to help us complete our activities.
One of the activities creates a heart that pumps – for that we use the straw!
Penny is fascinated with this. Another item used in our activities this month!
This red journal has a gold coin on it and a dragon. It’s actually really cool! We would totally use this for ourselves if we could!
The pages are unruled
One of the activities this month is creating a mandala. This ruler will be a great help in making the small patterns a mandala requires
Detachable Spirographs
Each adventure comes with a sheet of stickers that go with the theme of the current adventure – here are the Adventure 3 Stickers!
Each Adventure comes with it’s own comic. This one is aptly titled “Time Skaters and the Seventh Sense”
The artwork is really good – this is Penny’s favorite part about the Know Yourself Subscription. She really loves reading and scoops these comics right up!
The Activity Books included in the Know Yourself Subscription have all of our experiments and lessons for the adventure
This page introduces us to this month’s Adventure and explains a little more about it
Next we have a Chinese Dumpling Recipe
Followed by a Chinese Moon Cake
After that there’s a little space to leave some notes.
Next we start to talk about the “heart” of the matter. This page talks about being calm and how adrenaline and anxiety increase your blood flow and heart rate
And that leads us to our first activity. Make a Heart Pump
The next thing it covers is Chinese Calligraphy
On the left we have Chinese numbers in Calligraphy and on the right we have a mandala. The page explains what a mandala is and explains how to use the spirograph on the ruler to create your own… (more to come on this)
We go on to talk about Chinese Festivals, like the Lunar New Year
And next, Kung Fu. An integral part of Chinese history

Okay so now what?

Here’s Penny looking at her new stop watch and reading Time Skaters!
Unfortunately because the first activity required putty from Adventure 1 we weren’t able to complete it. We moved on to the calligraphy activity. You were given two numbers to sketch in Chinese Calligraphy
Finally, we did our mandala and we have to say … this isn’t what we had in mind. At all. But this is what you get when you give a 9 year old free artistic license!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. The Know Yourself Box is an excellent way to get kids to learn willingly. The activities are open enough as well that it’s an excellent way to spend some quality one on one time with your child. The presentation is great, everything arrives exactly as it should. The quality is awesome. The quality of both the activity book and the comic are excellent and we love the artwork. Curation though, is where Know Yourself really sets itself apart. The collection of adventures gives a comprehensive guide to the human anatomy and all the bodies systems along with other knowledge like geography and world cultures. It selects the activities and experiments that help kids to really put the lessons to work and make the connections. The biggest thing that we like though, is how much Penny loves it!
