Here’s the Box Breakdown
Our first glimpse inside the Outside the Box Creations Box.
Everything that we received in our Outside the Box Creations Box. This month’s project involved painting a watercolor landscape! Penny couldn’t have been more thrilled about this!
So what is all this stuff?
Our detailed instructions along with products included
Instructions on how to complete our project
This cute story follows Marisol who is painting a sky mural for class
The images are colorful and engaging, definitely a great story that spans many different age groups
We received two sturdy paint dishes
We received one roll of Blick Masking Tape. We’ll use this to fasten our pictures to the table
This brush is round and covers a lot of area at once – perfect for our landscape
This slim brush helps us to be a little more precise in our painting!
This is for an additional project included in our instructions
There were four shaving cream packets included for the additional project in our instructions as well
We’d never used liquid watercolor before so this will be fun to try out!
Yep, it looks dark but believe it or not this is red! Each bottle contained 4 ounces of paint
To round out the primary colors we receive watercolor in yellow in addition to our red and blue. Now we can create the rainbow!
So we can roll up our painting and give it as a gift!
This color wheel helps us to better understand the mixing of colors. We are really happy to have received this – it’s a great reference for the kids!
We received four sheets of heavy duty paper to paint our landscape on. There was one for all of us!
Mixing colors wouldn’t be nearly as fun without a fancy artist’s palette!
Okay so now what?
Now we paint!
First we taped down the paper
We went ahead and also taped at each third so it was easier for them to “see” what they were doing. We also go our paint ready!
We started with one long stroke of color – each stroke bleeds into the other and creates new gorgeous colors! Thus, our sunsets are born!
Even though we start out the same they are instantly different and we love that about this project
Our skies are finished. Now on to the ground!
For this we need to mix two types of green. A dark green and a light green. We can get this variety by increasing and decreasing the amount of yellow that we use
Dark green at the top of the grassy area and light green at the bottom and then we help the paint meet
Afterwards we add flowers in orange and purple (by mixing our colors of course)
This is ours!
Belle’s was bright and fun!
And Penny’s kind of looked like there was a storm on the way!
So in summary
We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. The Outside the Box Creations box is an awesome way to get one on one time with your child and also increase their creativity and “unplugged” time. With all the technology we have it’s nice to be able to guide them towards something productive that isn’t electronic! The presentation is great, everything arrives exactly as it should and the packaging is really cool. The quality is FANTASTIC. They’ve included an amazing supply of high quality art products and a hard covered book. You’ve got to love that!
As far as curation – yes, yes, yes! They’ve put this all together from the book to the project and it really comes together to be a full on lesson in watercolor! The girls loved this and we’re sure that your children will too!
