what's in the piquant post subscription box
Everything that we received in our Piquant Post Subscription Box. There are four different spice blends and four recipes to go along with them. The theme is Chinese Food for the Chinese New Year!

So what is all this stuff?

The first blend is this Whole & Ground Cumin packet which contains; Cumin, Szechuan Peppercorn, and Chili Pepper. The accompanying recipe is Cumin Lamb and is an aromatic dish comprised or lamb, soy sauce, our cumin packet, rice wine, cilantro and green onions and looks sensational!
The Spicy Tangerine Blend is a sweet and spicy mix of; Dried Tangerine Peel, Red Pepper Flakes, 5 Spice, and Ginger. The recipe that came with this was Tangerine Beef and includes Skirt Steak, Tangerines, Soy Sauce, Garlic, Ginger, Green Onions, and Spicy Tangerine Spice. This recipe will transport your tastebuds to China during the Chinese New Year when tangerines are in season and everywhere!
This blend is a simple but delicious blend of; White Pepper, Szechuan Peppercorn, and Sea Salt. The recipe that is sent to be used with it is Salt & 2 Pepper Shrimp and is also simple – including just Shrimp, Garlic, Jalapenos, Salt & 2 Pepper Spice, and Green Onion for garnish. Definitely one where the spices enhance the flavor of the food!
The final blend in this subscription is an essential when it comes to cooking Chinese food. The balanced flavors – sweet, savory, bitter, and sour are comprised of; Cinnamon, Cloves, Szechuan Peppercorn, Fennel Seed, and Star Anise. The recipe was probably the simplest looking and involved Chicken Thighs (which are a huge hit in our house)
To make this marinade – mix fresh Garlic, Soy Sauce, Fish Sauce, Sesame Oil, Five Spice, Rice Wine, Sugar and Salt in a bowl.
Here’s what our marinade looked like! After the chicken was done cooking EVERYONE liked it!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. The Piquant Post Box is an excellent way to get cooking inspiration each month and the fact that the spices are handmade in small batches makes them less processed and healthier! The presentation is great, everything arrives exactly as it should. The quality is awesome.. small batch with recipes developed by a chef – so cool! Curation, LOVE! Perfect way to mix the time of the year with different flavors. We love that they’ll be doing different countries and spice varieties and think this package came together quite nicely!
