Here’s the Box Breakdown
Our first glimpse inside the Piquant Post package for August
Everything that we received in our Piquant Post package. The theme this month is food from Spain, and we were excited to give our tastebuds the workout!
So what is all this stuff?
The first spice blend in our package is this Paella Spice and the recipe to go along with it is “Paella Mixta” which is a create your own type paella
This spice includes; Spanish smoked paprika, black pepper, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and bay leaf.
Saffron is the world’s most EXPENSIVE spice. Each strand is hand harvested from the stigmata of the Crocus flower which is a long and tedious process. Not only will you taste the saffron but saffron will color your food a gorgeous gold hue. We received enough to create two dishes this month
The recipe that we received for this was a Spanish Saffron Cod.
The beautiful spice in question!
August is a hot month so what better way to cool off than with a cold soup? Gazpacho is a staple in vegetarian meals and is a simple recipe with lots of flavor (and very good for you). The recipe we received with it is Spiced Green Gazpacho
This blend includes; fennel seed, rosemary, tangerine peel, lemon peel, and cayenne pepper. We’re excited to try this out as we’ve never made it
Finally, this month we have our Spanish BBQ seasoning and it’s corresponding Pinchos Morunos recipe. Instead of doing the recipes included this month we kind of wanted to show you guys the versatility of this subscription and how we use our spice leftovers!
This spice packet includes cumin, Spanish smoked paprika, coriander, oregano, garlic powder, fenugreek, and turmeric
While this spice came with a pork recipe we decided to use it on chicken the same way the recipe called for. We have chicken a lot (because everyone will eat it) and like to change up the way we season it.
This was simple to make, all we did was mix this with olive oil and make a paste and then coat the chicken thighs in it!
These came out so amazing (and yes… we are totally the unhealthy family that cooks chicken skin)
So in summary
We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. The Piquant Post is a great way to enhance your dining each month. If you love to cook (or aspire to love to cook) this subscription will be perfect for you! The presentation is great, everything arrives perfectly and we love that they include such varied recipes. Quality is amazing. These blends are made in small batches by hand with QUALITY ingredients! And curation. We love how they hone in on a region each month and are always impressed with the many flavors that we receive from Piquant Post
