Here’s the Box Breakdown
This month was all “Indonesian” inspired flavors. Here are our four recipes and spice packets.
So what is all this stuff?
Turmeric Gold Spice
Our first spice blend is a Turmeric Gold Spice which contains; Turmeric, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Ginger, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cardamom, Fenugreek.
The accompanying recipe was a Coconut Turmeric Cauliflower which is a twist on many classic Asian and Indonesian dishes. We love that Piquant Post mixes it up with different difficulty levels for their recipes. This one is relatively simple!
Our Satay Spice includes; Coriander, Nutmeg, Cumin, Paprika, Garlic Powder, White Peppercorn, and Turmeric to create a smoky and sweet flavor perfect for Satay
Our recipe for this blend is Chicken Satay which is a skewered marinated chicken and a CLASSIC!
Bumbu Bali Spice
The Bumbu Bali Spice is a bright flavor combo that contains; Turmeric, Coriander, Ginger, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Cayenne Pepper, Cumin, White Peppercorn, and Bay Leaves
The recipe for this spice is Mie Goreng or Noodle Stir Fry. which is the challenging recipe for the month. It has a few steps and can challenge your cooking skills (which we love). We also like that they give you enough spice for a few tries at each recipe so you can make it again (whether it’s to perfect said recipe or re-create a tasty dish)!
Our final spice is Bali BBQ which contains; Arabica Coffee, Smoked Paprika, Coriander, Garlic Powder, Nutmeg, Ginger, Star Anise, Onion Powder, Cloves, and Cayenne Powder
Our Balinese Pork recipe for this spice blend seemed simple and tasty and so we decided to make this recipe for the month!
We’re going to sear our porkchops. So, our first step is to get our oil in the pan and get it really hot!
While that heats up we mix together our Bali BBQ Spice, Brown Sugar and Salt and Pepper.
Coat our pork in our spices and then sear for 3-4 minutes on each side
You’re supposed to put your skillet into the oven but… ours has a rubber handle (we heard rubber doesn’t really have a whole lot of umami so we decided against that) in lieu we just used our baking pan. These smell and look amazing!
Guys!!! They were really tasty too!!
So in summary
We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation and presentation. The Piquant Post Subscription Box is a great way to increase your cooking skills each month with the fun recipes as well as your palette! The presentation is great, everything arrives perfectly. The quality is amazing. We love that the spices are small batch and made with quality ingredients! And curation. This Indonesian kit brought a whole new month of fun flavors and new recipes which we really enjoyed. We always enjoy cooking with new flavors and these were scrummy!
