Our first glimpse inside the Gramma in a Box

whats in gramma in a box

Everything that we received in our Gramma in a Box for April. Such spring-y colors! The theme for this box is “Spring Cookies & Candy” our children will be pleased.

So what is all this stuff?

Our box inserts. The first tells us about this month’s theme and the subscription while each of the others outlines our recipes. There are 3 in total. Each Gramma in a Box will give you 20 finished pieces!

Our three recipes for the month

Fruity Pebbles

These will be used in our bird’s nest recipe

We received 3 bags of icing in fun spring pastel colors. All we need to do for this is knead it and cut the tip and we are set!

Yellow Sugar

This sugar will be used to decorate our cookies

Mini Jelly Beans

These mini jelly beans will be used in our bird’s nest treat. (They’re the eggs in the nest!)

Melting Chocolate

This chocolate will be melted and used to make our marshmallow flowers

And if you didn’t see where we were headed with the last item… these multi-colored marshmallows are for our marshmallow flowers

Paper Cups

These 6 paper cups will hold our colorful bird’s nests.

The cookies that we received were shrink wrapped and cut into fun Easter shapes like; eggs, bunnies and flowers.

Green Sugar

Can we take a second and just acknowledge how pretty this color is? This is also used in decorating our cookies.

Jimies (sprinkles)

Rainbow Jimies. Why not?!

Okay so now what?

Now we get to creating!

First up was our marshmallow flowers recipe. We love how simple these recipes are and how the candy keeps the kids attentions for much longer than usual!

Our first step is to melt our chocolate

We end up with this

Then we sort our marshmallows by color (secret educational moment slipped in there by gramma!)

Next we’ll put a dollop of the chocolate on a piece of our wax paper and then arrange the marshmallows around it. We also place one mallow right in the center. These came out cute – but get a good look because they (and everything else we made with this box) didn’t last long.

The second recipe is the Colorful Bird’s Nests

We mix our fruity pebbles and the other half of our melting chocolate together in a bowl. By the way… this is what the little helpers do while they’re supposed to be mixing

You end up with this sort of mixture

You’ll then spoon it into your paper cups

And then add your mini jelly beans. These were super pretty… we have to admit. And according to Oliver, “Pretty tasty.”

Our final recipe is our cookie decorating recipe

First we line up our cookies and get our icing tubes ready

Then we just let Oliver have a great time. He added whatever designs he thought looked cool.

He really enjoyed adding the sprinkles as well.

Our finished products!

So in summary

We can’t break Gramma in a Box down the way we do most subscriptions because we have a pretty good idea what we’re getting when we subscribe. We can say though that this is a fantastic way to be “around” when you can’t be or to even just get more active with the children in your life. Our kids loved this box and there isn’t a CRUMB left over. They’ve stolen and begged for every last treat. It’s a clever subscription with an awesome concept!
