My first glimpse inside the Spice Breeze package for December

spice subscription boxes

Everything that came in my Spice Breeze package for December. Three delicious spice kits are included.

So what is all this stuff?

The box insert. This is a holiday themed assortment.

The first spice kit that I received is for a European Holiday Feast. There are two packets of spices included. The first includes Mugwort and the second includes juniper berries, cloves and a bay leaf. This recipe has you swap goose with turkey or chicken and incorporates gnocchi for a fun twist.

The second spice kit that was included in my package is the Egyptian Dukkah dish. This is an Egyptian mixture of spice and nuts. Typically sesame and hazelnuts are toasted for an intense flavor. There are two spice packets includes. The first includes coriander, cumin and the second includes toasted sesame seeds. This sounded yummy but I didn’t go with this recipe to create for you guys this month.

The final kit and the dish that I decided to create for you guys this month is a Georgian dish called Chashushuli which literally translates to “stewed”. This is a meat and tomato stew and sounded perfect for a cold Christmas Eve dish! There is only one spice packet included with this recipe and it contains; garlic, coriander, methi, paprika, caraway, chili, black pepper and summer savory.

To create this dish we first heat up butter in a pot.

Then we add the meat (I had to do this in two batches to make it an even layer). I used lamb meat but you can use veal or beef as well.

Once it’s browned on all sides we add onions, tomatoes, broth, garlic, the spice packet, fresh herbs and salt to taste.

Once you mix it all up and in it will look a bit like this!

Then we cover and cook on low medium heat until the meat is tender.

I did add some farro to my stew to give it a little more body though – I just added it about ten minutes before the stew was ready.

Here’s the final product. I topped the stew with more fresh cilantro. This was absolutely beautiful and had a great depth of flavor. Will definitely make this one again!

So in summary

Presentation: Everything was packaged well and arrived to me perfectly in my package from Spice Breeze

Quality: I love that the spices that are included in this package are non gmo and organic!

Curation: Since you have the ability to select the dishes that are included in your box each month I’d say that the curation is pretty spot on!
